As the pandemic episode ended, many people weren’t returning to Christ or the church.
It wasn’t what they’ve expected. Also, people are looking for a reason not to go back.
The reasons vary.
For instance, when the job market shifted. Cost of living is so high that it forced people to look for affordable housing and low costs in food, gas, and other items. Such a move would also mean leaving the local church.
And for some, they would leave, and never re-attend another local church in the new area where they’ve moved to.
Before the pandemic, the decline was noticeable.
Then the politics, cultural differences, and other hot bed items really put a wedge between people. It used to be that people would live with these differences, agreeing to disagree, but now, it’s a different ballgame.
Well, it didn’t catch God by surprise.
The Lord knew that man would walk away from certain places and it’s not over.
As we get closer to the return of the Lord, the Bible warned us about the end times. That people would defect from the Lord and His Word.
1 Timothy 4:1-2 (NKJV) “Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron…”
But they would depart the faith with this attitude.
Malachi 3:13-15 (NKJV)
“Your words have been harsh against Me,”
Says the LORD,
“Yet you say,
‘What have we spoken against You?’
You have said,
‘It is useless to serve God;
What profit is it that we have kept His ordinance,
And that we have walked as mourners
Before the LORD of hosts?
So now we call the proud blessed,
For those who do wickedness are raised up;
They even tempt God and go free.'”
This is what Israel said to the Lord. This would be the last book that would mark what’s termed as “The Silence Between The Testaments.”
Since Israel determined that it was useless to serve God, God in turn said for 400 years, it will be useless to talk to you.
The Lord refused to talk to Israel for 400 years.
The next time the Lord would talk would be through His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.
Hebrews 1:1-3 (NKJV) God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high…”
Many were assuming that the world would go back to normal, but this isn’t the case.
Things are setting up for the end of the end.
Events are happening faster than we could keep up.
As the return of the Lord draws near, it’s imperative for those that remain in Him to have this mindset.
Romans 13:11-14 (NKJV) “And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed. The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light. Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.”
