1 Timothy 4:1-2 (NKJV) “Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron…”
Notice the word “expressly.” From Strong’s Dictionary of Biblical Words, g4490. ῥητῶς rhētōs; adverb from a derivative of 4483; out-spokenly, i.e. distinctly: — expressly.
To be out spoken means to distinctively, or stand out above others. The Spirit of God is out spoken about what’s to come in the latter times. In other words, this is of great importance and emphasis that this is to be said. I want you to pay attention about this because it’s important.
Then Paul proceeds to show us when the Holy Spirit wants us to pay attention.
The latter times. Or in the last of the last days.
Some will depart from the faith. In other words, people that were once saved, will depart from the faith. They will make for the exits. They will turn their backs on God and walk out on Him and His Word.
The United Methodist Church, the Presbyterian Church, the Lutheran Church, the Baptist Church, the Episcopalian Church, and non denominational Word of Faith ministries are all experiencing people departing from the faith.
A departure from the faith isn’t just about a decline in church attendance.
Although when people leave, it’s foundation is people living in sin, disagreement with people and pastoral leadership, discord among the brethren, and frivolous excuses, as well as excuses over petty things.
It’s about bringing in sin into the house of worship and demanding that the church accept their darkened understanding of the Scriptures into their denominational doctrines.
This leads us to the next phrase.
“…giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils.”
To give heed means to………. from Strong’s Dictionary of Biblical Words…..g4337. προσέχω prosechō; from 4314 and 2192; (figuratively) to hold the mind (h3563 implied) towards, i.e. pay attention to, be cautious about, apply oneself to, adhere to: — (give) attendance,“
To hold the mind. In other words, you give attention or are paying attention to what demons and devils are telling you.
But this is how it’s done.
2 Timothy 4:3-4 (NKJV) “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.”
These teachers come with doctrines of demons and seducing spirits. Convinced that these teachers are giving what the people want to hear, they turn their ears away from the truth and turn themselves to fables (myths), which are doctrines of devils and seducing spirits.
This is the second step because the first step is that “according to their own desires, they have itching ears…”
It other words, they have an itching desire to hear alternative teaching that appeases their hearts and minds. Doesn’t this sound like Genesis 3:1-4? Just like when there’s an itch that you have to scratch.
The word itch……..well, glad you’ve asked.
g2833. κνήθω knēthō; from a primary κνάω knaō (to scrape); to scratch, i.e. (by implication) to tickle: — x itching.
AV (authorized version) (1) – have itching 1; to scratch, tickle, make to itch, to itch, desirous of hearing something pleasant.”
Up to this time, all Eve heard what the commandment of the Lord. It wasn’t pleasant to her. It was a permissive and prohibitive commandment with an incentive to keep within the boundaries.
Of every tree of the garden (permissive), you may freely eat, but the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall NOT (prohibited) eat of it, for in the day that you eat of it, you shall surely die (incentive not to touch it).
satan brought in alternative teaching and deceived Eve who had a desire for alternative teaching because her ultimate desire is to eat that which was prohibited. The “tree of the knowledge of good and evil.”
Look at what was the basis of her desire.
Genesis 3:4-6 (NKJV) “Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
Be like God…..hummmm….
“I will ascend above the heights of the clouds,
I will be like the Most High.’”
So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate.“
Eve had to be assured that there would be no penalty if she ate of the tree. Convinced of the devil’s word, she proceeded. In her mind, she saw that it was good for food, it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise…..
Wise about what?
Wise about “the knowledge of good and evil.“
You can have the best of both worlds. Good and evil. She had no knowledge of evil. She had knowledge of only what was good. How? Up till that point, every thing that she experienced was good.
A garden full of food. A man. Everything is perfect. What’s not good about these three things in her mind.
She wanted to see what “evil” is about because she hadn’t experienced evil.
The evil just wasn’t in the fruit. It was in the act of disobedience. The moment you eat, you’ve violated what God commanded. When you obey, evil stays. When you disobey, evil comes. But it comes with a penalty.
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
So. Now that we’ve established the origin of when we depart from the faith, it’s because when we have a desire for alternative teaching, the ear is tickled, scratch, or itches, we hear seducing spirits and doctrine of devils. We give heed to it. Pay attention to it, and we make a decision to depart from the faith.
The faith is the true commandments of the Lord, that in obedience, it keeps us alive.
Does this make sense?
The departing of the faith in the latter times is happening. In the denominational churches mentioned above, there’a a fight to include homosexuals. Remember, sexual immorality is against the Scriptures.
Adultery and fornication has been a part of many houses of worship. Homosexuality was there, but it was hidden ion the closet. Now that the world militantly came out of obscurity, they want the church to accept them as part of the faith.
In many of these denominations, church teaching, in the form or what’s called catechisms or summary of questions and answers of the Christian faith, or examinations or statements of faith have been challenged.
From the Urban Dictionary……it means “spiritual and intellectual enlightenment, like waking up from a deep sleep, seeing things clearly for the first time.“
But is it what it really is or is it a continuation of keeping people blind according to 2 Corinthians 4:4?
Are you spiritually and intellectually enlightened or are you spiritually in the dark?
Racism is hatred and hatred comes from the devil. The agenda of homosexuality, to make perversion normal comes from the devil. Defund the police, prison reform, releasing convicted practitioners of crime, no longer punishing criminals of every color comes from the devil. Blaming White people for being White is of the devil.
This isn’t “woke.”
This is doctrines of devils and seducing spirits promulgated in the latter times.
