When Adam and Eve sinned against God, it was because they’ve violated the command (law). The Lord told Adam, ‘Of every the tree of the garden you may freely eat. But the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, you shall not eat of it, for in the day that you eat of it, you shall surely die.”
The Lord gave Adam access to every tree except the one in the midst of the garden of Eden (paradise or amusement park). When Eve was created by God, no doubt, Adam told Eve not to eat of that specific tree.
There’s no question in my mind that she thought of a million ways to eat of that tree.
Leads me to believe also that she was intrigued by the phrase “knowledge of good and evil.”
Death didn’t bother her because when you’re living, death is pushed off. So what’s more important to Eve than death? Knowledge of good and evil.
So long as they refrained from eating that tree, they lived.
In others words, obedience required discipline.
There’s no question in my mind that Eve pushed every button to get Adam to do what she wanted him to do, but Adam refused every single time. She was looking for a reason to defiantly oppose God and Adam. What stopped her? The Word from God that was in Adam.
That Word from God became her limit or boundary until another intriguing thing took her attention away from the Word of God in her.
She needed another word.
That’s almost the limit of my speculation. Why? Because when you look at married couples, you see the same thing. Boundaries are established and when a man refuses to exceed that boundary, buttons are pushed until either the man gives in or they part ways.
She gets mad because the man is disciplined enough to say “wait” or not move at all to her promptings. Men, you don’t have to give in every time. You need to maintain your discipline before death sets in.
You have to learn how to wait even if and when she can’t.
Don’t be moved by her impatience. Just let her huff and puff. But don’t obey her. Obey God.
That’s the difference between being led by a headstrong woman or remaining heart strong. Payoff or penalty. Which is better?
She will push every button in the book. But maintain your obedience and discipline.
In comes satan and the rest is history. Eve was looking for a reason to eat of that tree and believing satan’s (adversary) deception had plunged the entire human race into the pit of death. Eve isn’t the only one to be blamed. Adam should have dealt with that serpent.
It took the combination (Adam & Eve) of disobedience to unlock the nature of death.
We see that death isn’t just the cessation of life, also known as expiration, but it is a nature that’s opposite of life. The expression of all man comes from within. John 10:10. When you see “steal, kill, and destroy,” lies and deception, these are all expressions of the wicked one within.
The nature of man became hostile towards God. Everything that God created in Adam and Eve is now in complete contrast of the nature of God first inspired by God into Adam.
The obedience and discipline to His law held the key to life.
As long as you obey His Word, death cannot enter.
The nature of God is the very characteristic of God, living in man, as long as man refrained.
The same is said with law enforcement also known as LE.
If there’s a law and as long as we remained obedient and disciplined, there would be no need for LE. The moment we disobey and become undisciplined is the moment that LE is needed.
Years ago, we went on a field trip to the NYPD Police Academy. I was very young and one of the exhibits that they took us to was the jail cell. The tour guide put us all in a jail cell. And walked away. I started to cry like a baby because of the cold sound of the jail cell door slamming shut. No where to go. Trapped. Alone.
The tour guide returned and opened the cell door with that big key and I was happy.
It was burned into my mind that if I don’t want this, we need to obey the law.
Today, many egregious acts were done by rogue LE, has pushed the people to abolish LE.
Just imagine a world without LE.
Killings, looting, and all sorts of things unimagined would rule the earth.
Hundreds of years after Adam’s sin, the days of Noah came.
Genesis 6:5-8 (NKJV Strong’s) “Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And the Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart.
So the Lord said, “I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth, both man and beast, creeping thing and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them.” But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord…”
Genesis 6:11-12 (NKJV Strong’s) “….The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. So God looked upon the earth, and indeed it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth.”
Lawlessness reached its apex to the point that the Lord had no other option but to bring judgment. Only Noah made the effort to seek after God and he, and his family were spared the judgment of God.
Yes, the Lord was even sorry for making man. Man grieved the Lord but one thing that the Lord did was that He stayed true to His nature. That He is a righteous and holy God and man was the one at fault for refusing to be disciplined and obedient.
The whole world decided to become wicked and violent.
Much like what we’re seeing today.
The Lord saved Noah because Noah made an effort to please God by faith, obedience, and discipline. But there’s another thing at work. God gave His Word to send Jesus in Genesis 3:15. God will fulfill what He set out to do. To redeem man from sin and death.
God’s Word was at stake. And had Noah not found grace in the eyes of God, Jesus would not have manifested. God was counting on the willingness of Noah to maintain his discipline and obedience.
Noah was also a preacher of righteousness (see 2 Peter 2:5). There’s no question that for 100+ years, Noah was laughed at, ridiculed, scorned, made fun of but Noah had a Word from the Lord and the Ark needed to be built.
Preaching requires that you say it with the fierce urgency of impending disaster.
Preaching requires that you say something. Noah said something for 100+ years and no one got saved.
Luke 17:26-27 (NKJV Strong’s) “And as it was in the days of Noah, so it will be also in the days of the Son of Man: They ate, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all.”
AND THE FLOOD DESTROYED THEM ALL.
Living much like today. Going on as if life is normal. But the times we’re living in isn’t normal. COVID-19, and racism is now front and center. Life will never return to any sense of normal. From here on out, man will continue in defiance of God on an unimaginable scale.
Matthew 7:13-14 (NKJV Strong’s) “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it.
Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.”
LE serves as a reminder to us all of the vile nature of man. Wicked man need to be locked up to preserve a society. But when LE become as vile as law breakers, they become a law to themselves (Seattle), the depths of wickedness seems bottomless, but it will come to an end.
Now LE is not perfect. There’s wicked, evil, and vile LE officers. We’ve seen how far LE can go to perform wicked things too.
The heart is “desperately wicked.”
Man must become like Noah, and find grace in the eyes of God.
Well, Jesus is “full of grace and truth.”
There will be no need for LE when ALL MEN COME TO CHRIST.
Until then, the purpose of LE is a reminder to us of the wickedness of man and the ONLY hope for man is Jesus.
